Layers display information about the number of permits issued for residential building construction in 2012. Additional data analysis by CARES includes the rate of permit issuance per 10,000 households (by county), and rate change over several time periods.

Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE)

Layers update the Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE) from the U.S. Census Bureau for the year 2011. In addition to udpating the county information, new data was added at the state level including racial breakdowns for populations without insurance.

Violent Crimes

Employment Accessibility

This layer displays information about employment accessibility by estimating the number of jobs within 45 minutes (drive time) from each census block group.

Student Test Scores

Layers display information about student performance on 4th and 8th grade English Language Arts and Math standardized tests. Data available by school district for the 2010-11 school year.

Public Transit Stops and Stations

This layer displays the locations of transit stops and stations. Data was acquired from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and is available for the 200+ metro areas.

Medicare Beneficiaries: Chronic Conditions

Layers display information about the prevalence of chronic conditions (asthma, diabetes, depression) among Medicare Beneficiaries. Data are 2007-2011 five year averages and are presented by county.

Gross Employment Density

Layers display information about total employment density (jobs per acre) at the census block group level. For additional map layers displaying employment density by industry, browse the Map Room data and navigate to Economic>Labor Market>Employment>Jobs by Industry.
